A Two-Week Sales Transformation

July 31, 2018 - Leah Neaderthal

What difference can two weeks make?

If you’re looking to get new clients and get paid bigger numbers without feeling salesy… two weeks can change a whole lot.

In two weeks, students in this round of SIGNED have:

… signed a new client at twice the fee she was charging before.

… doubled the price of a new service and made $4k for something she had been doing for free.

… discovered that her company’s entire sales process was focused on the wrong things, which is why they were losing deals.

… and gained confidence from within. She said: “In moments where I might have talked myself out of something, I found myself wanting to take advantage of an opportunity and say, ‘I want to meet it.’”

If you had to choose a result that would make the biggest difference for your business, which would it be?

  1. Raise your prices
  2. Make more money per client engagement
  3. Figure out why clients aren’t saying yes
  4. Gain authentic confidence
  5. All of the above

What is SIGNED?

It’s my 10-week guided sales coaching program, where you learn step-by-step how to get the clients you want, and get paid bigger numbers, without feeling salesy.

You’ll spend 10 weeks with me and other ambitious women entrepreneurs learning exactly how to get the leads you want, lead them to a successful close, charge and get paid more, and build authentic confidence from the inside out. And you’ll get the support you need to put learning into practice in your business.

Over the next two days, take a look at SIGNED.

This program will fill up, so don’t wait.

To your success,

Leah

For your ears: A very special sales interview

July 27, 2018 - Leah Neaderthal

So, it’s no surprise that I love being interviewed on podcasts, because I love sharing how women business owners can get more clients without feeling salesy.

But my interview with financial planner Zaneilia Harris was special.

Zaneilia interviews women who are leading the way in their industries. Recently she’s interviewed an attorney, a money coach, and others.

When I asked her WHY she started her podcast, I expected to hear something like, “It’s great to get my name out there,” or “It helps me get clients for my financial planning business.”

But instead, she paused and said, “This is my legacy for my daughter.”

Zaneilia does her podcasts to show her young daughter what strong women can do. And in doing so, she also gives a platform for other women business owners. What an incredible gift.

Hear Zaneilia and me talk about the ways women business owners can get new clients, at this link.

After you listen, I’d love to hear if there’s anything that spoke to you. What lessons or tips can you bring into your business?

To your success,

Leah

We need to talk about WORTHINESS

July 24, 2018 - Leah Neaderthal

I was once in a relationship with someone who told me I “didn’t have the face” for short hair.

She told my friends and me that she was the prettier one in the relationship.

And after we had built three businesses together, she told me that I didn’t deserve the title of Co-Founder.

You might be saying, “Why on earth would you date such an asshole! You must have gotten rid of her after she showed her true colors.”

But I didn’t. In fact, I got engaged to her.

Why? I didn’t think I could do any better. I didn’t feel worthy.

—

We need to talk about worthiness.

You know worthiness, right? It’s that feeling of being good enough. Feeling that you deserve to take up space.

We are all continuously exposed to messages that say we’re unworthy. We internalize these messages whether we want to or not, and they get lodged deep in our psyche.

Then those messages of unworthiness show up everywhere.

They make us think we need to lose 15 lbs before we look good enough.
They keep us from pushing for promotions or salary increases.
They keep us in bad relationships.

This struggle for worthiness also shows up in your business. It’s keeping you small, and it’s keeping you broke.

It takes anything you do to get new clients, and makes it feel salesy. Note that I didn’t say – It makes it salesy. It makes it feel salesy.

It makes us say, “I need to follow up but I don’t want to be annoying.”
It says, “There’s no way I can’t charge this much. Let me reduce that a bit.”
It says, “I don’t want my client to feel like I’m taking advantage of them.”

If we’re going to talk about getting new clients, then we have to take a close look at worthiness.

It’s why I spend a full ⅓ of my SIGNED program on the elements of worthiness, shining a light on each so that you can build authentic, lasting confidence.

Because I can teach you how to raise your prices six ways from Sunday, but if you don’t think you deserve it, nothing I say will work.

If any of this resonated with you, ask yourself: Where is worthiness showing up in my life? Where is it showing up in my business?

And most important: Am I interested in making a change?

—

So, what happened to that relationship? We called off the wedding three weeks before the date. Best decision ever.

And after taking time to fall in love with myself, I found my sense of self-worth. And I met my incredible, loving wife, who sees my worthiness too. (If you’re interested, you can see our wedding featured on the hotel’s website).

To your success,

Leah

My definition of success: a milestone moment

July 20, 2018 - Leah Neaderthal

There’s a saying in the startup world that goes, “Hustle until your idols become your rivals.”

The meaning is simple: work so hard that you reach the level of those you once looked up to.

But let’s be honest – that sounds douchey AF, right?

So, because I’m not a douchebag, I propose a new saying: “Hustle until your idols become your peers.”

This saying means so much to me because I’ve hit a huge milestone that feels like my definition of success: I’ve been invited to join the Women Sales Pros, a group of 50 women sales leaders.

This is such a Universe Moment that I just had to share it – check out the journey below. Maybe it will inspire you.

—

You might already know that I’ve never been a salesperson, and I’m completely self-taught when it comes to selling.

When I realized I had to learn how to get clients or my business would fail, I dove in to teaching myself. Over several years I read 65 books, tested every strategy with my own clients, and created a personal selling methodology that works and feels comfortable.

Those books I read? Many of them were written by the women of Women Sales Pros.

The incredible Jill Konrath, Joanne Black, Sharon Drew Morgen, and others… titans of selling.

They taught me skills I wove into my selling methodology, and ones I still use. Those are the skills that led me to start the business I run today, where I teach other women business owners how to get clients.

And it’s this work that caught the attention of the women of the Women Sales Pros. A long journey comes full circle.

So I’m honored to join the group. I hope I can provide as much value to them as they have provided me.

Hustle until your idols become your peers… and they will.

Want to see me on the Women Sales Pros site? Check out my profile here.

To your success,

Leah

A killer sales tip for better networking events

July 17, 2018 - Leah Neaderthal

One of my clients runs a boutique personal branding firm, and she’s speaking at a conference in Estonia this week (baller, right??). Before she wowed the crowd and gave her business card to all the people who wanted to work with her, I sent her this tip.

It’s about how to get leads at events, and I wanted to share it with you too, in case you’ve ever had The Post-Event Letdown.

But first, a bit of background.

—

Back when I was learning how to sell, every now and then I’d feel motivated to go out and try and connect with people. So I’d sign up for a bunch of networking events.

Each time I went, I’d talk to a few people who could be good clients for my marketing and website business.

We’d have a great conversation, they’d want to have a call later, and they’d ask for my business card. And I’d gladly hand it out.

Each time, I left feeling hopeful that I’d hear from them and excited about the prospect of working together.

And then… nothing. A week, two weeks, a month….

In some cases, I had their business card too. But reaching out first always felt weird, and what would I even say? How would I reach out and not feel salesy?

I’d feel bummed. I would kick myself at having wasted time at the event. But more than that, I’d feel embarrassed that I’d gotten my hopes up for nothing.

There it was, the Post-Event Letdown.

So I came up with this approach instead.

—

The tip I’m about to share with you will give you control. That might sound strange, but so often when we’re doing business development, so much can feel outside of our control. For example, we have to wait for people to get back to us, or something changes at our prospect’s company, or there’s a budget freeze.

So a key foundation of my selling methodology puts the control back into your hands, and this tip is one example of that.

You can use this at networking events, conferences, at a bar… anywhere someone expresses interest in learning more about your work.

It’s called the Business Card Strategy, and it goes like this.

  1. If someone asks for your business card, or you feel like you want to give one out… DON’T.
  2. Briefly explain why you can’t. You could say you left them at home, or my go-to is that I gave out my last one (… three years ago, but they don’t need to know that).
  3. Instead, offer to take theirs, or take their email address as a note in your phone. Then get their info.

Now YOU’RE in control of the follow-up, not them.

What do you think of this approach? Could you see yourself using the Business Card Strategy? Reply and let me know!

To your success,

Leah

Change is good: Why I focus on change to get results in sales

July 11, 2018 - Leah Neaderthal

Today I’m sharing a confession, and the lesson that came out of it that I still use today.

—

In 2013, I was seriously out of shape.

For starters, I was working way too much on my businesses. And when I say plural “businessES”, it’s because my then-business partner and I were running three separate companies.

And we were traveling all the time, dividing our time between Berlin, San Francisco, and New York. I was working out once a month (and that was a good month).

I hadn’t always been this way. In a previous life, I was a huge cyclist. I rode my bike from San Francisco to Los Angeles twice, and I did hundred-mile rides on weekends. But those days were long gone.

One day in SF, as I struggled through what should have been an easy bike ride, I realized the truth. I was out of shape.

I decided something had to change.

This was around the time when I was teaching myself how to get new clients. I was reading everything I could get my hands on (in the end, it would turn out to be 65 books). And something I read spoke to me:

“If you focus on results, you will never change. If you focus on change, you will get results.”

I decided to make that my workout mantra.

So I wasn’t going to try to lose 10 pounds, or get down to a % bodyweight, or lift a certain amount. Those were results-based goals.

Instead, I was going to focus on change, and build the HABIT of working out. So my entire goal became 6 words:

Two days on, one day off.

That’s how I was going to get back into shape.

It took a few months, but I got into the best shape of my life. I was strong. I felt great. And I finally had an outlet to clear my head and get zen about my business.

And yes, I got results. I dropped weight, my clothes fit better, and I looked pretty good too. 🙂  And I’ve kept up my fitness over the years.

—

That phrase has become my personal mantra. I even mentioned it on the Soulful MBA podcast interview.

It applies to much more than fitness; it applies to selling too. In selling, as in life, “If you focus on results, you will never change. If you focus on change, you will get results.”

So now I’m asking you: Are you focusing on results? Or are you focusing on change?

Results-based goals sound like this:

  • I want to get 5 clients (then I can stop getting clients for a while)

  • I want to make $XX money this year

  • I want the one big client who will sustain me (in sales terms, we call that a “whale”)

Change-based goals sound like this:

  • I want to have a full sales pipeline, so I’m not scrambling at the end of a project

  • I want spend 20 minutes a day doing outreach

  • I want to learn how to sell, so I can close new clients with ease

Where are you focusing? On results, or on change?

You know which one I’d recommend. And I promise that if you focus on change, you will get results.

To your success,

Leah
