What happens when you show up (podcast inside)

January 13, 2020 - Leah Neaderthal

I think it was a Tuesday when I got the invitation.

I had just received an invite to be a guest on a podcast.

From someone I’d never met or connected with before.

And the podcast was AWESOME, with a fantastic host, and an invitation to talk about a topic that’s squarely in my area of expertise.

This interview request came seemingly out of the blue. I hadn’t pitched myself or hustled to be noticed by the host.

It was totally random.

Except, it wasn’t. Because it came from LinkedIn.

For the past few years, I’ve been honing a specific strategy on LinkedIn to get clients, referrals, and other partner opportunities just like this. That strategy became the Pack Your Pipeline strategy, which I now teach other women consultants.

The host found me on LinkedIn because of that exact strategy, in exactly the same way I teach my students.

And these are the kind of results I tell my students to expect.

Because when you put yourself out there,

when you position yourself as an expert,

when you are seen by the exact right people,

…suddenly these “random” opportunities will pop up more often.

Since I’ve been consistently implementing the Pack Your Pipeline LinkedIn strategy, these things happen all the time. (No exaggeration.)

Invitations for interviews that I’d love to be on (on topics I love to talk about!)

Connection requests from people who I know I can help.

Referrals to ideal clients from people I’ve connected with on LinkedIn.

But while the strategy IS fantastic, there’s one key ingredient you MUST include to see these kind of results.

People ask me all the time, %FIRSTNAME%: “If you were to tell the ONE thing you need to do to get clients, what would it be?”

The truth? Show up consistently with a proven strategy.

The problem is showing up consistently takes some faith. It takes trust. And along the way you might wonder if it’s worth it.

Imagine I’m taking you by the shoulders and looking you in the eye for this part:

It is always worth it. Showing up consistently with a proven strategy is always worth the time and effort you put into it.

It WILL yield clients, garner opportunities, open up partnerships.

There’s no shortcut in the world that can give you lasting results like that.

If you’re ready to get a strategy in place that you can show up for consistently, I’m teaching a new live workshop on January 14th called “5 Steps To Attract Your Ideal Consulting Clients Using LinkedIn”… and you’re invited.

You’ll learn the simple strategy that positions you as an expert, helps you stand out, and brings your ideal clients TO YOU…

This is the exact strategy I use.

Here’s what happens when you set big goals

December 27, 2019 - Leah Neaderthal

I have to say, this week might be my proudest as a coach.

Earlier this year I started working with a woman who does marketing for startups. Her business had been doing well, hitting $500k per year consistently.

But she had bigger goals. She wanted to hit $1,000,000 in revenue.

She asked, did I think she could do it? I replied that I did.

Then she said she wanted to hit that number while still taking several weeks off to visit her family abroad. Life balance is really important to her, she said, and she didn’t want to be overworked.

Did I think she could do it? Again I replied that I did.

So we got to work.

We worked through her messaging, her pricing and service delivery, and her proposals, to help her start to charge dramatically more for each contract. She was a quick study, and not only that, she was focused on hitting the goal she had set: $1,000,000 in revenue.

—

Fast forward to this week, and I got this short email:

I asked her what felt different this year, and here’s what she said:

Bigger projects, higher prices, moving to 100% projects, and repeat business from existing clients. I have 4 deals over $100K. And the rest are around $50K.

Also I’m not afraid anymore. I’m confident what I do works and translates into results. I thought the other guys did it better than me. But every company I’ve worked with is experiencing strong sales and growth.

And she’s going abroad to visit family for several weeks. 🙂

—

Why do I share this? First, because… are you kidding me? $1MM is freaking awesome!!! And I love celebrating my clients’ wins.

Second, because I want to show you what’s possible when you set big goals.

I talk to so many women who are setting their goals way too low. “I’d be fine hitting six figures.” “I don’t need much money.” Have you ever said that? Have you heard someone else say it?

Here’s the thing. If you aim for low revenue, you will hit your goal. But you know what? If you aim for a big revenue goal? You can hit that too. And you can do it without being overworked.

So my challenge to you is to set a big goal this year. A goal that makes you uncomfortable. A goal you feel weird telling people about. That you’re not sure you can hit, but you’re going to try.

And then do what you need to do to get there.

—

This made everyone’s jaw drop

December 27, 2019 - Leah Neaderthal

When you get the right people into a room together, amazing things can happen (even if it’s on Zoom).

I’m constantly blown away by the incredible women who join the SIGNED program, and how they lend their years of career experience to support one another.

These are women who have led careers in any number of industries and now they’ve taken that experience and started their own businesses.

As a result, the women in the program don’t just get coaching from me, they get experienced help from each other.

And that help isn’t fluff… it’s freaking GOOD because it comes from women who have been there.

Like a few weeks ago, in the SIGNED coaching call we were talking about deep brainstorming to create your value-based messaging, and one of the women offered brainstorming strategies she had used in her corporate career.

… her 27-year career leading creative teams at huge advertising agencies.

No wonder her suggestions were seriously killer.

Or the student who sells into nonprofits who asked a question in the SIGNED alumni group, and instantly there were a handful of other alums who are consultants to nonprofits too, offering to chat on the phone and talk her through her issue.

But there’s one instance I absolutely love because it made everyone’s jaw drop.

We were talking about selling into mid-sized and large companies: what to do when your contact says they don’t have the budget, and how to work with a company’s procurement team.

(Procurement is the most-feared department for any consultant, because their job is to manage vendor contracts and reduce costs.)

I said that if a company sees the value and really wants to hire you, they’ll find the budget. Several students didn’t believe me and pushed back. Hard.

That’s when another student raised her hand and asked, “Can I offer a few thoughts?”

She continued, “I worked in procurement for my whole career. And let me tell you: there’s always budget.”

Each students’ jaw dropped.

First, because it’s true: there’s always budget.

Second, because someone who knew this issue inside and out was right there in the group.

What followed was a great discussion about how to work with your prospect to navigate the procurement process so that you can get your project approved.

That’s what’s possible when the right people get together. Even on Zoom.

—

If you could get experienced help for any business question, from women who have years of experience in that specific topic, how would that help you? What would you do if it was just a click away in a private Facebook group for your SIGNED class?

You too can be a part of a group of incredible women — your people — who can give you the answers you need to move forward.

If this sounds like the kind of group you’d like to be part of, I’d invite you to apply for the next cohort of SIGNED.

We kick off on Thursday, November 14th, and this is our last time we’ll offer the program this year. As always, I intend to pack it full of actionable value so students just like you can start using this system RIGHT away.

After you apply, you’ll be invited to a call with our team where we’ll openly and honestly talk about if this is the right fit for you right now.

The four types of wins you’ll see

December 27, 2019 - Leah Neaderthal

Do you know my favorite part of the SIGNED weekly coaching calls?

Wait – let me explain.

In SIGNED, each week, students learn one step of the program, then we get together in the middle of the week and go deeper on a live coaching call.

And even though students are constantly getting coaching in the private Facebook group, it’s on these Zoom calls where students get live, face-to-face answers from coaches so they can keep moving forward.

So back to my question: do you know my favorite part of these calls?

It’s not when we answer someone’s question and they have a breakthrough right there on screen, although that’s super exciting and inspiring.

It’s not when we do a live-review of someone’s messaging or proposal, although that’s amazing to see something go from “just okay” to absolutely compelling.

It’s the wins.

—

The first thing we do on every SIGNED call is share our Weekly Wins. This is where students announce a win they had in the past week, and we all cheer them on and give them major props.

There are four types of wins you can share – these are the wins students see in the program:

  1. A client win – you won a new client
  2. A money win – you charged or got paid more than before
  3. A mindset win – you approached something differently, even if it’s uncomfortable
  4. A business win – something great happened in your business in general

Why do we start with wins?

Because running your business can be lonely, and when you don’t have a community to celebrate with, it can feel even lonelier.

Sure, we have spouses, significant others, and close friends. But some things just feel odd to tell people.

You landed a new contract for many thousands of dollars? It’d be weird if you told the CVS cashier.

That’s why we start with wins. And we get REAL with these wins. We talk numbers. We pat ourselves on the back HARD.

It’s where we hear things like:

“I got back three signed proposals last week, and two of them chose my most expensive program! In fact, yesterday was the best day ever in my business!”

“I had a great discovery call with a new prospect yesterday. I felt so confident – it couldn’t have gone any better!”

“I had a mindset win and followed up with someone who had gone quiet, but I had been afraid to reach out. I did it according to your method and now we have a call scheduled for next week!”

The wins that students share? They’re amazing, and they inspire everyone.

But it’s not just about feeling good about yourself. Since we’ve started doing Weekly Wins, I’ve seen the wins get better. There are more of them. The contracts are bigger. The mindset wins are more groundbreaking.

The results of the program are better.

—

Running your business doesn’t have to be lonely. You too can be a part of a group of incredible women — your people — who have your back and are ready to celebrate you.

If this sounds like the kind of group you’d like to be part of, I’d invite you to apply for the next cohort of SIGNED.

This is our last time we’ll offer the program this year, and as always, I intend to pack it full of actionable value so students just like you can start using this system RIGHT away.

A message from Mandy

December 27, 2019 - Leah Neaderthal

Mandy here. We’ve been talking about the awesome group of women who take SIGNED over the past couple of weeks, and I had to chime in.

As Leah’s Program Specialist, I get a front row seat to the community and the women who join it. That’s because I get to talk to each woman who inquires about our SIGNED program and help them decide if it’s a good fit. If it is, and if I know we can help them see results, then I get to offer them a spot in the program.

And I have to say: there’s something really special about the women who join our community in SIGNED.

But before I tell you why, I need to tell you what brought ME into the Leah-verse.

After 10 years working in for-profit education and 11 years in hospitality/entertainment, I decided to work for myself, helping women business owners personally connect with their potential clients and see if they’re a good fit to work together.

But the first clients I got with my business… they just didn’t fit with who I wanted to be helping.

First, I hate to say it, but it was a lot of women who decided they were life coaches five minutes ago. They didn’t have experience, tools, or strategies to truly help their clients.

Second, for a lot of them, it wasn’t clear what they were selling, actually. Their business didn’t really do anything. Their coaching was more in the “feel good” category and less in the “results” category, and I didn’t feel right offering that to their potential clients.

That’s why I was so excited when I read that Leah was looking for a Program Specialist, so I applied.

—

I thought I had found something good when she and I first started talking. And after several rounds of interviews, she invited me to join her team.

But once I dove in started talking to the women who were joining SIGNED, that’s when I really knew I was in the right place.

> First, because Leah’s the real deal. She teaches women how to grow a consulting business… because she’s actually run a consulting business. She teaches women how to sell… because she herself had to actually learn how to sell. She isn’t just talking the talk. She’s walked it herself.

> Second, because Leah actually sells SOMETHING. Her stuff is real, it’s actionable, and it works. There’s no fluff or woo-woo (although there is some tough love).

You’ve never had to sell before? Great – you’ll learn a step-by-step process. You need to send an email or write a proposal? There are templates for that. You need help with mindset? She teaches real mindset strategies based on psychology, with some real talk to un-learn how we’re socialized as women.

> But the best part: the women who join the program and the SIGNED community? They’re amazing.

They’re exactly who I want to help by connecting them to the training they need to grow their business. Super smart, professional women who have taken their years of experience and have created businesses. Real businesses.

Like the branding expert I talked to last week. Or the copywriter who works with mid-sized companies. Or the user researcher. Or the SEO expert.  Or the microbiologist who sets up clinical testing labs for pharma companies. Or the leadership consultant.

They come from all types of career backgrounds. They sell to solopreneurs, small businesses, mid-sized businesses… all the way up to the Fortune 500.

When I talk to these women and help them get excited about what’s possible in their business, that’s the best part for me.

—

Listen, I know how this industry can be. A lot of fluff from people with dubious credentials, and learning alongside women you wouldn’t even want to grab coffee with. I know, because I saw that first-hand when I started my own business.

But this is different. It’s real stuff, from someone who’s been there, joining a community of your people. Women like you, who are as serious as you are about your business.

I’d love to meet you and see if this community is a good fit for you. Click here to schedule a 15-minute intro call. If it’s not the right fit, I’ll let you know right then on the call.

I’m looking forward to talking to you!

Trusting the universe is NOT a strategy

December 27, 2019 - Leah Neaderthal

For over 10 years, she had gotten all of her clients through referrals. But now she was getting worried.

“I’ve always trusted that the universe would provide. And for many years, it has. But I don’t think it’s wise to continue trusting the universe.”

And I agreed.

Trusting the universe is not a strategy.

Sure, trusting the universe means you don’t actually have to put yourself in the uncomfortable position of going out and getting new clients. You don’t have to reach out to someone who you don’t know, or ask for the business.

It doesn’t challenge you to do anything different than you’ve done before. Or grow as a business owner.

And it impacts your bottom line.

When you trust the universe to bring you clients, it means not knowing if, or when, the next client will come your way. What if it doesn’t provide and you have no backup way to get clients?

When you trust the universe, it can mean that your income is erratic, so you can’t plan ahead for expenses, or bring on new team members.

Trusting the universe is safe for your ego. But it’s not safe for your business.

—

But when you learn HOW to get new clients, that’s safe for your ego AND for your business. Because you know how to get the clients you want, and you’re in control.

It’s possible to do it in a way that isn’t salesy, that lets you be yourself, and develops great relationships with your clients. So you’re working with them, not for them.

Now I want to hear from you: When it comes to getting new clients for your business, do you have a strategy and a sales process? Or are you trusting the universe?

To your success,

Leah
